OMSI

Internships at
Not your typical internship
At the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry you won't be spending your internship hours photocopying, making coffee, or cleaning up files from 1962 all day. We offer an exceptional and unique experience at a world-class science center. Our goal is to provide you with opportunities to form a well-rounded, professional experience.

Customized, staff-level internships
We offer customized, staff-level internships to qualified college students, recent graduates, graduate students, and individuals making a career change or returning to the workforce. Internships are unpaid, but the experience is well worth your time. You are placed with enthusiastic mentors, who help you develop future job skills and discover the inner workings of a major museum.

Create an internship
You can "Create an internship." Send a letter of interest with internship goals, your desired time commitment and a proposed work schedule. If your internship would benefit OMSI, and we have the staff to guide you, we will contact you.

Internship opportunities
Our diverse departments offer internship opportunities for a broad range of careers! Our departments include: Development and Membership, Executive, Exhibits, Facility Services, Financial Services, Marketing and Public Relations, Human Resources and Volunteer Services, Retail Business, and Museum Education (Physics, Chemistry, Technology, Early Childhood Education, Earth Science, Life Science, Featured Exhibits).

What do we look for in a candidate?
The intern program is very competitive. The most successful interns are interested in working with and for children, have good interpersonal skills and can articulate their goals. Enthusiasm is important.

What's the commitment?
Internships run a minimum of eight weeks. Many internships are full or part-time for a three to six month period.

Can I get credit?
Many of our interns do receive college credit for their internships. We encourage you to seek credit and will assist you in receiving it. Contact your advisor or department chair to inquire about your school's policy.
